A detox is one part psychological, and two parts physical, at least that’s how I think of it! It’s a state of mind and a promise you make to your body that this weekend, you’ll treat it right.
A detox means different things to different people, many of whom have different goals. Most of us just want to feel… refreshed and cleansed at the end. Here’s a little routine I perform at least once a month:
- When you wake on Saturday morning, don’t get out of bed right away. Try to become fully aware of your surroundings, and take a moment breathe deeply-really listen.
- It might seem hokey, but concentrating on sounds like birds chirping and being aware of the rhythm of your breathing and the beating of your heart is a great relaxation technique. Do this for about five minutes.
- Prepare a cup of hot water and then squeeze some lemon into it. Sip it slowly, let your mind wander for a bit and try to think positive, relaxing thoughts.
- Climb into the shower and again, try to focus on the experience of bathing. A daily shower often becomes such a ritual that it’s mechanical; take your time.
- Next up is a nutritious high protein breakfast, some scrambled eggs with whole wheat toast and a glass of fresh squeezed fruit juice. Focus on the experience and don’t text, read, or do anything that might otherwise draw away your attention from the meal.
- Lunch should be similarly light, perhaps a choice of vegetables and/or fruits. Treat yourself to something tropical or exotic! Mix fruits with strong and mild flavors for an exciting meal, I personally love squeezing a bit of lemon over a slice of papaya.
- By dinnertime, a meal of lean meat, fish or chicken and veggies is highly recommended. When you’re done, curl up with a good book after dinner and let your imagination run free; think positive thoughts.
- By Sunday morning you’re body will feel energetic, while your mind will be calm and collected.
Repeat Saturday’s routine, but mix up your meals, on Monday you’ll feel as though you’re just back from a secret mini-vacation!
Health and love,
Summer

Hi Summer! I too believe it’s not just the physical aspect of our body that needs detoxification – our mental and emotional aspects as well. Our body should be well attuned with our environment.
Some of the popular ways are:
1.) Breathing deeply to allow oxygen to circulate more completely through our system.
2.) Transforming stress by emphasizing positive emotions.
3.) The most important way – Exercise. Yoga or jump-roping are good. At least One hour every day.
It’s a must that everyone should contibute in making this world a healthier place to live in.
doing things I like could actually make me feel relax. I go to church, walk my dog, go picnic with my high school best friends under the morning sun and treat myself with a nice hot chocolate — these make my weekend so refreshing.
Thanks for posting this, Summer.
It’s always a good idea to spend some time planning your weekend. Weekend is the perfect time to go outside and do something fun. If I don’t feel going out, I take some time to dust off those old cookbooks and pick out a recipe that I’ve always wanted to try but never had the time to make. I might find a new favorite healthy dish! If I’m craving to eat, I choose low calorie foods which won’t sabotage my diet. Since I tend to have more free time on weekend, I super-charge my workout by doubling my usual time. With this, I burn more calories which helps counter any less than healthy choices I make. Lastly, I set my goals for the week ahead. With this, it’ll be more likely to stick to my healthy habits and achieve the success that I’m looking for.
For me the best way to detoxify during weekend is by not thinking of any plans at all. Meaning, it should be a worry free day for me not thinking of office works, problems, what to do or where to go. I will stay at home sleep and if I wake up I drink a lot of water, eat vegetables and fruits, less carbohydrates and protein food, then clean my room for exercise
Fresh fruits tickle my everydays. Then I take vitamin C and E to make sure that I enjoy a stress-free life even during weekdays.
just make sure that weekends’ fruit shakes are more special.
I fast once a month for detox. a friend of mine do it a week every 6 months. i don’t have that kind of will like she had.
Basically, this is my menu almost everyday except the carbs and I pooped in the morning not taking a shower.
I think the best thing to do for everyday detoxification is to eat and drink right.
Drinking 8 glasses of water everyday is already a good detox. It flushes away toxins inside your body just like any other detoxification chemicals and herbs.
And don’t get tense in all the things you do, just relax and stay put to avoid any stress.
Anyways, cheers for this article.
You’re absolutely welcome, Vincent. And yes, drinking as much fluid as possible definitely helps!
Ha! Well, that’s probably something you’d need to do to stay healthy anyways!
Victoria, always be careful about depriving yourself of food. It’s a good idea to consult a doctor before you do something like that, many will tell you that it’s not healthy!
